The 4-line poem “Enemy Worshippers” opposing the moves to politicize the clash with China at the border is going viral on social media platforms. Hollywood Director and poet Dr. Sohan Roy wrote this poem and shared it on social media.

In the clash that happened in eastern Ladakh’s Galwan where India shares border with China, 20 Indian soldiers had lost their lives for the nation. Even in this situation when each Indian citizen has to stay together to fight against the enemy beyond the border, a tendency to make the issue political, regional and social was evident in the arguments raised by a group of people. Just like emotions and consciousness make a man think, it urged Sohan Roy to sit and ponder. Afterward, he filmed the documentary named “Dams: The Lethal Water Bombs” and shared his concerns with society. The short film secured three awards from Los Angeles Movie Festival and Movie awards the very next year itself and continued to acquire about 23 international awards in the coming years.

Vishakham Thirunal Ramavarma, the ruler of the erstwhile Travancore princely state, had signed an agreement with the British for 999 years, known as “Periyar Paattakkarar” ( Periyar Lease Agreement). The British people were authorized to construct the Mullaperiyar Dam and to distribute the water of Periyar to Tamil Nadu via the Vaigai river for 999 years. This agreement came into force on 1886 October 29. The Achyuthamenon Government had renewed the agreement post-independence.

Nobody has any grievances in supplying water to Tamil Nadu. But isn’t it atrocious to argue that Kerala has no right to rebuild the Dam for 999 years? Will a Dam which starts to give away after about a hundred years stay secure for 999 years?

Was that 999 suffixed to “DAM” because the “999” is a more significant water bomb than the Dam itself?

As a designer, Abhini Sohan’s passion in designing started budding at a very tender age. Her inspiration was her mother and cousin who is a renowned fashion designer in South India. Handpicking of IFPL designer wears were also done through a similar process of travelling each place all by herself and choosing one from a wide range of collections. Accepting the hospitality of President of Indywood Billionaires Club and President of NRIPA, Shri. Sohan Roy, many international celebrities and Indian billionaires have reportedly enjoyed travelling in BOTEL to admire the picturesque beauty of Alappuzha’s backwater. Josef – Born in Grace

‘Josef – Born in Grace’ has found its place in the 92nd Oscar contention list, after a grand reception at IFFI – Film Bazaar this year. This is UA Kathachitra’s first film. The movie stars Victor Banerjee (National Award winner & BAFTA nominee), Subrat Dutta (Best Actor – Cairo Film Festival), and Sudarshan Juyal in pivotal roles. The movie is directed by National Award Winner Susant Misra (Indradhanura Chhai, Biswaprakash, & Dharini) whose movies have been screened in some of the most prestigious festivals across the world, including Cannes (Un Certain Regard), Cairo, Rotterdam, Sochi (Grand Prix Winner), Moscow, and Montreal. He is joined by National Award Winner Sudheer Palsane (Ko: Yad – The Silent Way, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Katyar Kaljat Ghusali) for cinematography, and National Award Winner Sukant Panigrahy (Dev D, Ek Tha Tiger, Drishyam) for art direction. ‘Josef – Born in Grace’ is an adaptation of a short story, ‘Joseph’, written by Umakanta Mahapatra and is set in the Himalayas between 1960 and 1980 in India. Father O’Hara (Victor Banerjee), a missionary doctor with the help of his caretaker Maularam (Sudarshan Juyal), raises an orphan baby Josef (Hitesh Bisht). While still a young boy, Joseph is sent to Dehradun for his studies and vocational training. Josef (Subrat Dutta) returns back with a reputation as a great cook as well as his love for alcohol.

The film explores in its unfolding of time, the different paths that Father O’Hara, Josef, and Maularam take in their respective journeys for spiritual fulfilment through memories, duty, and search as well as their interaction with friends and acquaintances. Through static mise-en-scene, the narrative of the film reflects the all-encompassing nature of time, preempting and repeating itself in allegorical hues.

Indywood Talent Hunt Dubai Chapter Kick Starts

Dubai: UAE’s biggest youth festival, organized by Aries Group of Companies in association with Biz Events was inaugurated today. This two-day event was inaugurated by Mr. Sohan Roy, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Aries Group of Companies at Dubai Amity School.
This inauguration kick started the grand finale of Indywood Talent Hunt 2019.  The winners in music, dance, photography, fine arts, filmmaking, designing, quiz, technical, dramatics and creative media sections will compete during this two-day event.
Students from more than 400 music and arts schools in the UAE competed in the preliminary rounds and the winners were qualified to the semi-final rounds. Indywood Talent Hunt is the largest ever public verdict based youth festival in the history of the UAE’s festivities, which is about one million people. The finalists were selected based on public participation, online voting, YouTube’s acceptance of contestant videos, and the scores provided by expert jurors. Using our shopper insights we have created an offering that is tailored to meet our shoppers’ needs, including the most comprehensive BWS and vegan offerings in the area. Not only do our sales prove that we’ve created a point of difference, but the fact that our nearest competitor, Sainsbury’s, is now directing customers to our vegan range, is the icing on the cake. 2. Shopping environment All the research showed that our local shoppers wanted smaller batched produced products, whether that was BWS or vegan products. They’re also keen to top-up shop regularly and want healthy, easy dinners with fresh ingredients and that’s exactly what we’ve delivered. We’ve also tried to look after our younger visitors and have introduced small shopping trolleys for children, which have been a big hit. The results speak for themselves. Basket spend has grown from £5.30 to £6.66 and sales have grown from £26,000 to £35,000”

He lists three ways in which he have responded and retained footfall after a new discounter/supermarket opened in his catchment area.

“1. Point of difference to create distinction. We’ve created a real point of difference with our vegan offering. Our competitors have now reduced their vegan range as they simply couldn’t compete with the depth and breadth of our offering. We have also introduced a specialist range of grocery items to fulfil demand from customers seeking a premium range of goods. 2. The extension of our BWS offering means that we now have one of the most comprehensive ranges in the area, ensuring we always have a great range of possibilities to pair with our ‘meal for tonight’ options. 3. In a direct response to customer feedback and to reduce environmental impact, we have introduced loose fruit and vegetables, so shoppers can buy the exact quantity they need”

The school fed back that there is a close correlation between the success of children within the classroom and being well fed. We’re looking at expanding this initiative and I’d like to support this financially through the shops (my personal ambition is to ensure that no child in Blyth goes to school hungry)”.

“Blyth is inundated with retail shops; we have ALDI, Lidl, ASDA and many convenience stores. The challenge is to differentiate ourselves from everyone else. One way we do this is through stocking local products. Our eggs are delivered fresh daily from family-run Lintz Hall Eggs, our milk and fresh dairy comes from Hanover Dairies, our local green-grocer (John!) brings fresh, seasonal vegetables, and a local Blyth sandwich lady delivers delicious homemade sandwiches every day. Another challenge is ensuring we offer a quality range of products at competitive prices, as many customers are on a budget. We work closely with best-one to ensure we have a range of products at various price-points and also run monthly special offers”.

 

He lists three ways in which he have responded and retained footfall after a new discounter/supermarket opened in his catchment area.

“One way we’ve retained footfall is through our support of the community – we support local people, and in turn, they support us back. We face a lot of retailer competition but because we are at the heart of the community customers choose to shop with us. We’ve also utilised social media to engage with our customers. We now have 5,000 Facebook followers and promote our special offers and new products via our page. Lastly, we’ve introduced food-to-go options allowing us to capture lunch time footfall. This has bought new shoppers through our doors, as well as the same familiar faces”

Justin Whittaker says “We identified that whilst our food-to-go offer was great for breakfast and dinner – from 4pm we were quiet. Yet takeaways are thriving in the evening. We were missing a trick. We also identified that we were missing ‘millennials’ from our customer base. So we introduced the desserts bar to complement the rest of our food-to-go offering by giving an offer for the evening trade and something that would appeal to the younger generation – waffles, crepes and premium ice cream! The desserts bar alone takes £4,000 a week with a profit margin of +50%. We’ve introduced exclusive offers, such as Waffle Wednesday (buy one get one free) or Monday 2 pizzas and Pepsi for £10. And we’ve developed an ordering app to maximise the appeal of the dessert bar, appeal to our younger more ‘tech-savvy’ younger generation and to future proof our business. Customers can click onto a Facebook post to ‘shop now’. We’re doing £1,500 business with the app and more importantly, it’s all on high profit lines. Add to that our food-to-go zone with coffee machine, doughnut rack, hot cabinet, noodle snacks, grab and go chiller, which includes sandwiches and meal deals. There’s something for everyone throughout the day. Evenings are now our busiest time of day for food to go! We already had a good broad food-to-go offering to cover most requirements for grab-and-go. Our food-to-go zone includes a coffee machine, doughnut rack, hot cabinet, noodle snacks, F’real milkshakes and a chiller (with sandwiches, crisps and soft drinks). Now that we’ve introduced the desserts bar we’ve got an offer that is really popular with the younger generation and also for evening trade. That’s what was missing before. The investment in the desserts bar was £80k. Payback was just 6 months.”

He says about the best-performing component of food-to-go. “This year, we’ve built a dessert bar! This has definitely proved to be the best performing component of our food to go offer. It cost £80k to install and payback has been just 6 months. Previously a large proportion of our business was driven through promotions, so our POR was just 19%. We reduced SKUs across the store to create space to build our ‘Just Desserts Co’ bar. It’s a vibrant pink – really distinct and completely different from the rest of the store. We sell a range of cream cakes, premium ice cream, crepes and waffles with a variety of toppings. The unit also houses a Chicago Town pizza station, milkshakes and a Tango ice blast with carbonated slush. The dessert bar is already taking £4,000/week and with +50% profit margins. Different daily offers include Waffle Wednesday (BOGOF), Pancake Tuesday (BOGOF) and Monday x2 pizzas and Pepsi for £10. Customers are quite happy to wait while their waffle is being created in-store! The teatime solution has always been a problem but with the dessert bar and pizza options we have now started to evolve into this market especially at the weekends”.

Anything new coming into the store has to have a minimum of 30% POR tapping into the millenniums (who have never bought a newspaper or cigs in there life) ie Tango Ice Blast costs £1:10 selling at £5 also not leaving out the silver greys by doing great shop local deals ie local milk, bread and eggs again with some great margins. Also taking a great local shop with traditional values and putting it into the modern world with a great app connected to FB”.

Customers click on a Facebook post to ‘shop now’ and place their order – for pick up or for delivery. We’re doing £1,500 business with the app. 3 We ensure that we’re active on social media. It’s the key tool that we use for promoting all our activities and for connecting with our customers and the community. For example, when we put Gordon’s pink gin on promotion at £12/bottle with a free glass and promoted it on Facebook the post reached 59,000 people and we sold £2,500 in one day. When all the banks in the area closed, we put in an ATM and posted ‘free cash, like and share’. It reached 129,000 people”.

Indywood Distribution Network with Bala’s Theatrical Rights successfully enters the second week of its run in UAE and GCC Countries

Dubai: It has been a week since the release of Ayushmann Khurrana’s  Bala is running successfully in the box-office. The movie continues in a good number of screens in the UAE and other GCC Countries with high occupancy. The film has been well received with positive reviews and praises have been showered upon the actor.

‘Bala’ is Ayushmann’s biggest release till date. The film released across 3000 screens in India and more than 550 screens in the overseas markets.

Indywood Distribution Network owns the distribution rights of the overseas market and is all set to release the movie in Saudi Arabia on 14th November.

Ayushmann Khurrana, who has given 6 consecutive hits, is coming back to the screen after a brief break with Bala. The actor will be joined by two of his phenomenal co-stars Bhumi Pednekar and YamiGautam.

Actors Seema Pahwa and Javed Jaffrey also play a pivotal role in the film. Bala attempts to take a satirical twist on a middle-aged man suffering from hair receding through slapstick comedy.

Sajid Javid The First British Asian Chancellor Of The Exchequer Is Ranked First On The Annual List Of The 101 Most Influential Asians In Britain

The Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid MP has retained the top spot on the GG2 Power List, the definitive ranking of the UK’s most powerful Asians. The annual publication, which is revealed on the night of the GG2 Leadership Awards, has been published for the 9th year and features the UK’s 101 most recognised and influential Asians from a wide range of sectors.

On topping the annual GG2 Power List, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid, said: “I am honoured to be recognised on the GG2 Power List once more and I am proud to live in a Britain where anyone can become Chancellor, whatever their background. Each person on this year’s Power List has their own story to tell, but the example they set to young Asian women and men is helping to create a better and brighter future for Britain. I commend and congratulate them all.”

Javid retains the top position he achieved last year after being named Britain’s first Asian Chancellor in July 2019. Together with Home Secretary Priti Patel, who features at number 2 on this year’s list, the pair represent the first time that two out of the top four cabinet positions have been occupied by politicians of Black or Asian heritage.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan at number 4 remains a highly influential figure, since becoming the first Muslim Mayor of a major European city, Khan has remained a key advocate for London and its business interests globally.

For the second year in a row, Hollywood star Riz Ahmed features in the top 10 (ranked 8) as the only figure from entertainment and the arts. The award-winning British actor has wowed audiences and critics alike with his recent performance in Sound of Metal, whilst remaining a strong voice for on screen representation and diversity in the arts. Joining him in notable positions are the likes of Romesh Ranganathan (15), Jameela Jamil (16), Sanjeev Bhaskar and Meera Syal (21) and new entrant British-Indian actress Naomi Scott (27) who impressed as the iconic Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin this year and is soon to be seen in Charlie’s Angels.

The Top 10 features Neil Basu (5), Assistant Commissioner of Specialist Operations for the Metropolitan Police. Rishi Sunak, climbs 37 places from last year (44-7) due to his new position as Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

The 21st GG2 Leadership Awards celebrated the achievements of some of the UK’s most prominent ethnic leaders on a glittering evening. The GG2 Leadership Awards showcase ethnic achievement, talent and leadership in the UK. This year’s winners once more proved to be torchbearers for ethnic communities and leadership in their respective fields.

The prestigious GG2 Hammer Award, an accolade presented to a high achieving individual who has shattered the proverbial glass ceiling, was given to Nitin Paranjpe, global Chief Operating Officer of Unilever. His success and achievements at one of the world’s most valuable companies were celebrated on a night when some of the UK’s most successful leaders from diverse communities were honoured for their achievements.

Indywood Distribution Network Bags Rights To Distribute Prassthanam – Releasing Soon In GCC

Indywood Distribution Network now owns rights of distribution of the official Hindi remake of the 2010 Telugu film ‘Prassthanam’ and would be released in GCC soon.  The much-awaited trailer of Sanjay Dutt’s Prassthanam was released on 29th August, 2019 and the film promises a lot of action and twists. The film, which is the official Hindi remake of the 2010 Telugu film of the same name, also features Manisha Koirala, Chunky Panday, Jackie Shroff, Ali Fazal and Amyra Dastur.

The original Telugu film-Prassthanam featured Sharwanand, Sai Kumar, Sundeep Kishan and Ruby Parihar in pivotal roles. It was directed by Deva Katta, who has also helmed the Hindi version. Produced by Maanayata Dutt (wife of Sanjay Dutt), the remake of Prassthanam will open in theatres on September 20.

The trailer which was released, shows a child asking Sanjay Dutt’s character about the morality behind lord Rama killing Ravana and shows Sanjay Dutt fighting goons. Sanjay Dutt plays the role of Baldev Pratap Singh, the head of a political family, and his two sons (played by Ali Fazal and Satyajeet Dubey) fight against each other to carry forward his legacy. Jackie Shroff proves his loyalty to Sanjay Dutt by supporting him throughout the political war.

Chunky Panday also plays a prominent role in the movie and shows a head-to-head political battle along with Sanjay Dutt with a glimpses of Manisha Koirala, Ali Fazal, Satyajeet Dubey and Amyra Dastur.  The plot of Prassthanam touched upon the story of Ramayana and Mahabharata to depict the choice of war between right and wrong even in this era.

Sohan Roy, Founder of Indywood Billionaire Club expressed his deep condolences as India’s biggest coffee chain, Cafe Coffee Day, founder VG Siddhartha was declared dead today. His body was found today morning after being reported missing mysteriously since Monday night. The body was recovered by a group of fishermen from the Netravati river, near Hoige Bazaar beach in Mangaluru after 36 hours. The spot from where the body was recovered, was reportedly some distance away from the bridge he was seen on last.

Sohan Roy, who is a successful business man also relates to the issue Siddhartha might have faced and struggles he might have gone through to built a coffee chain like CCD and feels deeply for the family who might be in unbearable sorrow now.

Siddhartha, also the son-in-law of former Karnataka chief minister and BJP leader SM Krishna, was last seen near the bridge in the Kotepura area in Dakshina Kannada district on Monday night, police said.

Reacting to the demise of Siddhartha, businessman Mr. Sohan Roy empathized with Siddhartha’s letter saying that Indian “government and other businessmen can drive anyone to despair for personal gains. If  government does not take any corrective measures, such incidents may repeat again in future.”

Indywood Talent Hunt International 2019 will be a Mega Youth Festival exclusively conducted for the Art & Cultural Institutions across all the Emirate Sectors in UAE.

Friday 21st June, London – The fourth Eastern Eye Arts, Culture & Theatre Awards (ACTAs) winners have been revealed at tonight’s glittering gala awards night at the May Fair Hotel, London. The evening was hosted by award-winning broadcaster Nihal Arthanayake.

The ACTAs celebrate diverse talent in the arts and entertainment, with categories spanning a wide range of disciplines and showcasing a world of talent. The list of winners for 2019 were another eclectic mix of popular household names and critically acclaimed emerging talents who excel in their respective fields.

Leading the charge of 2019’s winners, the Theatre categories saw some notable triumphs for EastEnders favourite Nitin Ganatra, crowned Best Actor for theatre production ‘End of the Pier’ and Coronation Street actress Shobna Gulati who picked up Best Actress for her role in ‘Richard II’. Acclaimed theatre director Indhu Rubasingham won Best Director for her adaptation of ‘White Teeth’, the best-selling novel by Zadie Smith, whilst ‘Tartuffe’ by the Royal Shakespeare Company picked up the Best Production.

The hotly contested categories for Comedy and Contemporary Music were won by popular comedian Paul Chowdhry and chart-topping producer Naughty Boy respectively whilst the TV and Film acting categories were awarded to Ash Tandon (‘Bodyguard’) and Priyanga Burford (‘Press’).

Star of hit BBC TV show ‘Dr Who’, Mandip Gill won the People’s Choice Award, as voted for by the public, with the Emerging Artist Award going to Antonio Aakeel, star of independent British comedy film ‘Eaten by Lions’.

Kochi to host All Lights India International Film Festival; entries invited

Ernakulam: All Lights India International Film Festival (ALIIFF) invites entries for ‘Celebrate Malayalam Cinema’. Entries for Feature Films and Short Films can be submitted for the Film Festival till 31st August, 2019.
The criteria for the film’s which had to be submitted is that the duration of Short Film should be between 5 minutes to 30 minutes and for Feature Film should be more than 60 minutes. The Films should be made between January 2018 to August 2019.

London to host biggest Gala award night (ACTA) Eastern Eye’s Arts Culture & Theatre Awards which recognise British Asian talent in a wide range of disciplines, including literature, film, television, theatre, comedy, music, dance, visual arts and contribution to the creative industries in general.

Now in its fourth year, the ACTAs are the leading event recognising the enormous contribution that artists of South Asian heritage have made and continue to make to the Britain’s thriving arts scene. The ceremony pays tribute to Britain’s best and most creative talent across a wide range of disciplines, including literature, film, television, theatre, poetry, music, photography, dance and the visual arts. Celibrity guests from the arts, cinema, TV and creative industries to attend the gala ceremony.
