Indywood Fashion Premiere League (IFPL) conducted a live webinar “Evolution OF Beauty Pageants : From Runway to Online” on guiding how to conduct beauty pageants online. The webinar will be carried out on July 1st 2020 from 6p.m onwards and is a completely new idea and the webinar comes with practical answers to all the concerns regarding making beauty pageants a virtual affair. The webinar aimed to open new doors of opportunities to the fashion world, which has come to a standstill owing to the pandemic. A 4-Line Poem Retorting Back To Enemy Lovers

The 4-line poem “Enemy Worshippers” opposing the moves to politicize the clash with China at the border is going viral on social media platforms. Hollywood Director and poet Dr. Sohan Roy wrote this poem and shared it on social media.

In the clash that happened in eastern Ladakh’s Galwan where India shares border with China, 20 Indian soldiers had lost their lives for the nation. Even in this situation when each Indian citizen has to stay together to fight against the enemy beyond the border, a tendency to make the issue political, regional and social was evident in the arguments raised by a group of people. This poem got released in the circumstance where various controversial incidents like the odd ways in which many medias pictured the brave demise of the soldiers and the interviews of some political leaders.  Lines in the poem are openly lashes out against the people who degrade the value of brave soldiers who readily lost their lives to uphold the dignity of their motherland.

“Enemy Worshippers” has gained much applause from various nooks of the globe. B.R Bijuram, who had also done music direction and background music for different mainstream movies like Black Jew and Aickarakkonathe Bhishaguaranmar, has done the music direction and orchestration of the English and Malayalam versions of this poem. The English version was recited by Bindya Bashi, a tenth-grade student in Rajagiri school in Kochi.

Renowned American Singer And Music Director Edon Molla To Sing For Aries Group’s Upcoming Movie

Well known American singer, lyricist, and music director, Edon Molla will now be a part of Aries Group’s upcoming movie named “Mmmmm…”. The film is produced by Hollywood Director and poet Sohan Roy and directed by Vijeesh Mani.

Edon Molla has worked with many reputed artists in the American music industry, including the Grammy Award winners. His music has been recognized by New York’s Brooklyn Marathon, independent movies of Europe and America, and various radio stations. Edon’s first album “Alone” had attained lakhs of streams through digital media platforms, in a short span of four months. ‘Mmmmm’ will be his debut project in the Indian music industry. A movie that made us foresee the crumbling of the Mullaperiyar dam predicted to fall in July 2020 by Nostradamus. Even the supreme Indian Parliament standing still in the name of a movie. Two states closed their borders and involving in a fight between each other. Thousands of volunteering protesters flowing into Mullaperiyar daily. Tamil Nadu Government is continuing the ban even after the Supreme court granted permission for the release. They also denied putting up of posters through movie organizations and asking whichever theatre that came forward to show the movie to pay the entire revenue as fine. They banned satellite rights of the film, which almost got to the final step of gaining the most prestigious Oscar and assigning hundreds of Cyber soldiers to tamper with the IMDB rating. Directed by Dr. Sohan Roy and released in 2011, DAM 999 has novelties numerous enough to fill a dam. In 1975, 2,50,000 people were mass murdered by Banqiao Dam in China. Wikipedia refers to it as the tallest among the 6 oldest dams across the globe and that it is 7 times taller than Banqiao Dam. These facts vividly explain the intensity of horror that was collecting in the Mullaperiyar dam along with water.

Just like emotions and consciousness make a man think, it urged Sohan Roy to sit and ponder. Afterward, he filmed the documentary named “Dams: The Lethal Water Bombs” and shared his concerns with society. The short film secured three awards from Los Angeles Movie Festival and Movie awards the very next year itself and continued to acquire about 23 international awards in the coming years.

When a twenty-one-minute movie was subject to acknowledgment, he realized the seamless opportunities a commercial film made on the same concept could receive. It urged him to make a movie on a larger canvas. In contrast to “Titanic” movie’s concept of coincidental disaster, a film which pictures human-made disaster can fulfil the actual goal of the art of movie-making- bringing awareness. With this thought in mind, he started conceptualizing it in him. The director spent the entire savings made through 16 years long hard work for this ten million budget debut film, without fathoming that he is stepping into a great disaster.

    

By the time “DAM 999” was ready for release, it had already received so many accolades. The movie has cast 16 national award winners, and became the first Indian movie to implement 2D to 3D “conversion technology.” The film was also simultaneously released in 5 world languages. It was shot aboard the largest ship in the world’s history, making it the first Indian film that had incorporated the water graphics technology. DAM999 was the first Indian movie produced in the Hollywood format. It was distributed by the world-famous production and distribution company “Warner Bros.” Banned in the state, even before its release, it became super hit, thanks to the controversies of actor created due to actor Thilakan and Mullaperiyar, etc. These exciting facts made the movie stand out, which comes to a total of nine specialties, including controversies and novelties during release time.

The film was also a “super-hit” in terms of the number of awards it had received. It was also shortlisted for Oscar and received five entries in three categories. Besides this, the movie got selected to compete in twelve categories for the very next year’s Golden Rooster Awards. Dam 999 is also the first Indian movie that to have obtained entry to this award, which is also popularly known as the “Chinese Oscar.”

In the year of 2013, the cinema received “Best Director” and “Best feature film” awards at the Cinerockholm International Film Festival; Three awards including “Special Jury Award,” “Best Movie of Festival” and “Best International Feature Film” from International Film Festival for Environment Health and Cultural Festival; “Best English Film Award” in Sangli film Festival, and more. The movie was also honored with the “Judge’s Favourite Award” at the “Antigua & Barbuda Film Festival” while the organizers honored Director Sohan Roy with a special award.

Vishakham Thirunal Ramavarma, the ruler of the erstwhile Travancore princely state, had signed an agreement with the British for 999 years, known as “Periyar Paattakkarar” ( Periyar Lease Agreement). The British people were authorized to construct the Mullaperiyar Dam and to distribute the water of Periyar to Tamil Nadu via the Vaigai river for 999 years. This agreement came into force on 1886 October 29. The Achyuthamenon Government had renewed the agreement post-independence.

Nobody has any grievances in supplying water to Tamil Nadu. But isn’t it atrocious to argue that Kerala has no right to rebuild the Dam for 999 years? Will a Dam which starts to give away after about a hundred years stay secure for 999 years?

Was that 999 suffixed to “DAM” because the “999” is a more significant water bomb than the Dam itself?

Chennai: The grand event of Indywood Fashion Premiere League Season 3 concluded successfully at Taj Connemara in Chennai on Feb 14 th 2020. The event was organised along with the official launch of Indywood Billionaires Club – Chennai chapter where top enterprising business icons from the state of Tamil Nadu were honored. Recognizing the relevance of age old tradition of weaving and the major role it has played in shaping the fashion world since ages, IFPL season 3 was themed “A walk for a Cause” which unveiled a greater cause of promoting the Indian weaver’s community.

IFPL season 3 showcased handpicked designs by Mrs. Abhini Sohan, Executive Director – IFPL, who is known for her impeccable design sense. Travelling around the world and imbibing fashion from varied cultures and nations, her choice of clothes showcased in the event was subject to great appreciation. As a designer, Abhini Sohan’s passion in designing started budding at a very tender age. Her inspiration was her mother and cousin who is a renowned fashion designer in South India. After 15 long years of service, Aries Group’s Safe BOTEL (Backwater operated Tourist Entertainment Launch) has now been handed over to its new owner. BOTEL, a uniquely novel concept, which provided the Kerala’s houseboat industry a new facelift, played a huge role in taking the cruise industry to the next level. Designed and engineered to sail on the sea, BOTEL was the first ever houseboat in Kerala to be made from steel merging the durability of the metal with the aesthetics of traditional houseboat architecture. Aries Group was forced to put the BOTEL on sale as its Captain Shri. James died due to a heart attack this month, quoted the Founder Chairman and Naval Architect, Shri. Sohan Roy.

Though, BOTEL was featured in many television advertisements and movies, it gained international recognition after it appeared in the Hollywood movie, DAM999. Accepting the hospitality of President of Indywood Billionaires Club and President of NRIPA, Shri. Sohan Roy, many international celebrities and Indian billionaires have reportedly enjoyed travelling in BOTEL to admire the picturesque beauty of Alappuzha’s backwater. ‘Josef – Born in Grace’ has found its place in the 92nd Oscar contention list, after a grand reception at IFFI – Film Bazaar this year. This is UA Kathachitra’s first film. The movie stars Victor Banerjee (National Award winner & BAFTA nominee), Subrat Dutta (Best Actor – Cairo Film Festival), and Sudarshan Juyal in pivotal roles. The movie is directed by National Award Winner Susant Misra (Indradhanura Chhai, Biswaprakash, & Dharini) whose movies have been screened in some of the most prestigious festivals across the world, including Cannes (Un Certain Regard), Cairo, Rotterdam, Sochi (Grand Prix Winner), Moscow, and Montreal. He is joined by National Award Winner Sudheer Palsane (Ko: Yad – The Silent Way, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Katyar Kaljat Ghusali) for cinematography, and National Award Winner Sukant Panigrahy (Dev D, Ek Tha Tiger, Drishyam) for art direction. ‘Josef – Born in Grace’ is an adaptation of a short story, ‘Joseph’, written by Umakanta Mahapatra and is set in the Himalayas between 1960 and 1980 in India. Father O’Hara (Victor Banerjee), a missionary doctor with the help of his caretaker Maularam (Sudarshan Juyal), raises an orphan baby Josef (Hitesh Bisht). While still a young boy, Joseph is sent to Dehradun for his studies and vocational training. Josef (Subrat Dutta) returns back with a reputation as a great cook as well as his love for alcohol.

The film explores in its unfolding of time, the different paths that Father O’Hara, Josef, and Maularam take in their respective journeys for spiritual fulfilment through memories, duty, and search as well as their interaction with friends and acquaintances. Through static mise-en-scene, the narrative of the film reflects the all-encompassing nature of time, preempting and repeating itself in allegorical hues.

Dubai: UAE’s biggest youth festival, organized by Aries Group of Companies in association with Biz Events was inaugurated today. This two-day event was inaugurated by Mr. Sohan Roy, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Aries Group of Companies at Dubai Amity School.
This inauguration kick started the grand finale of Indywood Talent Hunt 2019.  The winners in music, dance, photography, fine arts, filmmaking, designing, quiz, technical, dramatics and creative media sections will compete during this two-day event.
Students from more than 400 music and arts schools in the UAE competed in the preliminary rounds and the winners were qualified to the semi-final rounds. Indywood Talent Hunt is the largest ever public verdict based youth festival in the history of the UAE’s festivities, which is about one million people. The finalists were selected based on public participation, online voting, YouTube’s acceptance of contestant videos, and the scores provided by expert jurors. Shad Saleem says how a store-owner can become the spirit of the community.

“For me, it’s all about being woven into the community; a part of the fabric. A community can be diverse – a mix of people of different ages, jobs, families and it’s about connecting with all of them in some way. I think one of the ways I’ve managed to do this is I’ve never said no to ANY community support asked of me in the last 20 years”.

He says about the initiatives that he developed to benefit his local community in the last 12 months.

“Within our community there are children that come from families below the national poverty threshold who can’t always afford food and are being sent to school hungry. Through my involvement with The Rotary Club of Blyth we worked together with Malvin’s Close Primary Academy, where we created a Breakfast Club enabling 30 children to be given a proper breakfast and ‘set them up’ for the day. The school fed back that there is a close correlation between the success of children within the classroom and being well fed. We’re looking at expanding this initiative and I’d like to support this financially through the shops (my personal ambition is to ensure that no child in Blyth goes to school hungry)”.

He describes two key challenges facing Convenience and his plans for taking advantage.

“Blyth is inundated with retail shops; we have ALDI, Lidl, ASDA and many convenience stores. The challenge is to differentiate ourselves from everyone else. One way we do this is through stocking local products. Our eggs are delivered fresh daily from family-run Lintz Hall Eggs, our milk and fresh dairy comes from Hanover Dairies, our local green-grocer (John!) brings fresh, seasonal vegetables, and a local Blyth sandwich lady delivers delicious homemade sandwiches every day. Another challenge is ensuring we offer a quality range of products at competitive prices, as many customers are on a budget. We work closely with best-one to ensure we have a range of products at various price-points and also run monthly special offers”.

 

He lists three ways in which he have responded and retained footfall after a new discounter/supermarket opened in his catchment area.

“One way we’ve retained footfall is through our support of the community – we support local people, and in turn, they support us back. We face a lot of retailer competition but because we are at the heart of the community customers choose to shop with us. We’ve also utilised social media to engage with our customers. We now have 5,000 Facebook followers and promote our special offers and new products via our page. Lastly, we’ve introduced food-to-go options allowing us to capture lunch time footfall. This has bought new shoppers through our doors, as well as the same familiar faces”

Justin Whittaker says “We identified that whilst our food-to-go offer was great for breakfast and dinner – from 4pm we were quiet. Yet takeaways are thriving in the evening. We were missing a trick. We also identified that we were missing ‘millennials’ from our customer base. So we introduced the desserts bar to complement the rest of our food-to-go offering by giving an offer for the evening trade and something that would appeal to the younger generation – waffles, crepes and premium ice cream! The desserts bar alone takes £4,000 a week with a profit margin of +50%. We’ve introduced exclusive offers, such as Waffle Wednesday (buy one get one free) or Monday 2 pizzas and Pepsi for £10. And we’ve developed an ordering app to maximise the appeal of the dessert bar, appeal to our younger more ‘tech-savvy’ younger generation and to future proof our business. Customers can click onto a Facebook post to ‘shop now’. We’re doing £1,500 business with the app and more importantly, it’s all on high profit lines. Add to that our food-to-go zone with coffee machine, doughnut rack, hot cabinet, noodle snacks, grab and go chiller, which includes sandwiches and meal deals. There’s something for everyone throughout the day. Evenings are now our busiest time of day for food to go! We already had a good broad food-to-go offering to cover most requirements for grab-and-go. Our food-to-go zone includes a coffee machine, doughnut rack, hot cabinet, noodle snacks, F’real milkshakes and a chiller (with sandwiches, crisps and soft drinks). Now that we’ve introduced the desserts bar we’ve got an offer that is really popular with the younger generation and also for evening trade. That’s what was missing before. The investment in the desserts bar was £80k. Payback was just 6 months.”

He says about the best-performing component of food-to-go. “This year, we’ve built a dessert bar! This has definitely proved to be the best performing component of our food to go offer. It cost £80k to install and payback has been just 6 months. Previously a large proportion of our business was driven through promotions, so our POR was just 19%. We reduced SKUs across the store to create space to build our ‘Just Desserts Co’ bar. It’s a vibrant pink – really distinct and completely different from the rest of the store. We sell a range of cream cakes, premium ice cream, crepes and waffles with a variety of toppings. The unit also houses a Chicago Town pizza station, milkshakes and a Tango ice blast with carbonated slush. The dessert bar is already taking £4,000/week and with +50% profit margins. Different daily offers include Waffle Wednesday (BOGOF), Pancake Tuesday (BOGOF) and Monday x2 pizzas and Pepsi for £10. Customers are quite happy to wait while their waffle is being created in-store! The teatime solution has always been a problem but with the dessert bar and pizza options we have now started to evolve into this market especially at the weekends”.

Anything new coming into the store has to have a minimum of 30% POR tapping into the millenniums (who have never bought a newspaper or cigs in there life) ie Tango Ice Blast costs £1:10 selling at £5 also not leaving out the silver greys by doing great shop local deals ie local milk, bread and eggs again with some great margins. Also taking a great local shop with traditional values and putting it into the modern world with a great app connected to FB”.

Customers click on a Facebook post to ‘shop now’ and place their order – for pick up or for delivery. We’re doing £1,500 business with the app. 3 We ensure that we’re active on social media. It’s the key tool that we use for promoting all our activities and for connecting with our customers and the community. For example, when we put Gordon’s pink gin on promotion at £12/bottle with a free glass and promoted it on Facebook the post reached 59,000 people and we sold £2,500 in one day. When all the banks in the area closed, we put in an ATM and posted ‘free cash, like and share’. It reached 129,000 people”.

The opportunity for click and collect is particularly significant, because that is another reason not to visit the main part of the shop.” Online baskets remain consistently bigger than standard industry ones.

Dubai: It has been a week since the release of Ayushmann Khurrana’s  Bala is running successfully in the box-office. Thiruvananthapuram, 5 Oct 2018: As the wait comes to a close, Indywood’s second CSR movie “Aickarakkonathe Bhishaguaranmaar”  hits the theatres today. The official launch Produced by UAE based Aries group using the corporate social responsibility (CSR) Fund, the entire revenue from the movie would be used for the relief and rehabilitation processed in flood hit Kerala. This 100% Charity Venture promises 25% of the net revenue will be used for upgradation and promotion of Film field and the remaining would be used for building homes for those who lost them in the worst ever floods that has hit the land of Kerala. The movie would be released in over 100 theatres today.

The movie tells the tale of the life of the commons in a village named Aickarakkonam. Talented artists like Vipin Mangalassery, Samardh Ambujakshan, Sinseer Muhammad, Miyashree, Hridya Nijilesh, Lakshmi Atul, Shyam Kurup, Prabhiraj Natarajan, Mukesh M Nair and Basil Jose, chosen meticulously from the national level auditions conducted by Indywood Talent Hunt show, handle the lead roles and are well backed up by celebrated actors Lalu Alex, Shivaji Guruvayoor, Sunil Sukhada, Boban Samuel, Pashanamm Shaji (Saju Navodaya), Jafar Idukki, Kottayam Pradeep, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Seema G Nair and Manju Pathrose.

100% of the revenue to flood affected people and Film Industry Welfare, “Aickarakkonathe Bhishaguaranmaar” marks a novel exemplar of pacification.

“Aickarakkonathe Bhishaguaranmaar” is the second CSR movie initiative by U.A.E based Aries Group by putting to use Corporate Social Responsibility (C.S.R) fund. Decision was already taken by Aries Group to utilize 25% of the income from the movie for up gradation and promotion of film field. The remaining revenue will be used for relief/rescue operations and rebuilding the homes of flood victims. The movie will be released in over 100 major theatres all around Kerala on the October 5th, 2018.

Of the $10 billion to be raised as investment $5 billion will be spent on theatres, $2 billion on studios, $1 billion on movie production, $1 billion on equipment manufacturing and $1 billion on talent schools/agencies. Project Indywood, of which IBC is part, has already lined up plans to put up 10,000 4K projection multiplex screens, 100,000 2K/4K projection home cinemas, 8K/4K film studios, 100 animation/VFX studios and film schools adhering to international standards across the country.

According to a report prepared by Deloitte for Indywood, the Indian entertainment industry is expected to grow at 11 per cent CAGR reaching $3.7 billion by 2020. Understandably in the coming years, the volume of foreign direct investment will play a decisive role in conceiving and implementing mega projects. And this is where the IBC comes in.

Set to include over 100 Indian billionaires into its fold by the end of this year, the Indywood Billionaires Club will also educate prospective investors on effectively tapping opportunities in the growing Indian film and entertainment sector comprising movies, animation and graphics. Hyderabad (28-07-2018):Ushering in a new era for Indian cinema awards, the prestigious Project Indywood, a 10 billion USD initiative that aims to elevate Indian cinema to an international level,is initiating Indywood Academy Awards (IAA) at HITEX, Hyderabad on December 1st.

The Indywood Academy Awards, an integral part of Indywood Film Carnival 2018, is the first of its kind to move away from the traditional selection processes. Instead, it will rely on a multi-stage selection process that involves 1000+ members of the World Film Society and a 10 member Executive Jury Panel chaired by renowned Bengali filmmaker, music director and cinematographer Goutam Ghose.

The initial entries will be open to all and the contention list will be prepared internally.Following this, the short list nominations will be prepared based on recommendations given by members of the World Film Society. The Executive Jury Panel will take the final decision and declare the winners on December 1st.

 

Indywood Academy Awards aims to promote excellence in different categories of filmmaking, raise global attention for films that are not inherently commercial, and encourage production of quality films on a global stage.

The World Film Society, a forum designed and developed for uniting film sectors across the world for the betterment of the global movie industry, will play a crucial role in preparing the nomination short list. Initiated as part of Project Indywood, World Film Society aims to support the movie industry by creating a close-knit relationship between motion picture associations and their related departments.

The Indywood Academy Awards will recognize excellence in international and Indian regional cinema as part of Project Indywood’s mission to unify global cinema cultures under one roof. Awards will be presented in 26 categories, including Best Foreign Language Film and Best Performance in a Leading Role -Foreign Language Film

The event comprises of the All Lights India International Film Festival (ALIIFF), Indywood Film Market, Indywood Talent Hunt, Billionaires Meet and an array of Excellence Awards.

The Carnival is expected to accelerate the growth of Indian Film Industry through materialising big budget movie projects, co-production ventures and B2B meet generating business worth Rs 500 crore.

The Indian Filmmaker’s Guide To Oscars

Indian films have been a regular affair in major international festivals. And now, achieving the Oscar dream seems plausible too.

Lobbying, promotions, and what not! The race to the Oscars is a mad rush. Indian cinema, despite its rich storytelling tradition, has not been able to decode the Oscar secret. Until now that is!

The All Lights Film Services, which broke into this niche scene 2 years ago, is leading the Indian charge, helping filmmakers attain international recognition at the Oscars.

In a freewheeling chat with Indulge Magazine, Nisha Joseph, Manager of the All Lights Film Services, explains the Oscar process, the hurdles faced by filmmakers and how the organization she represents has made the dream possible for over 10 films from the sub continent in less than 2 years.

 

  • First of all, can you explain what all categories are open to foreign filmmakers and the process for a film to be selected into the Oscar contention race?

Under the foreign film category of Oscar, “Best Foreign Language Film” is the only category for the foreign filmmakers.  The entry to this category is just one per country and is recommended by the film federation/film apex body of the country.

But under the mainstream category of Oscar, any filmmaker can send their entries. There are around 26 category competitions under this including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and so on.

For the contention, the movie should primarily go through a series of qualification criteria including Los Angeles Screening for 7 consecutive days and if it is not in English language, it should have English subtitles.

  • How difficult is it for an Indian movie to compete with other foreign films?

The key is to get noticed. According to a recent report, an Oscar campaign is said to cost approx $3 million to $10 million which includes mass PR campaign and publicity generation through adverts, holding lobbying parties at LA, New York and the film’s parent country, sending out screeners to Oscar jury members, special review reports / critic reviews in famous film journals and publications etc. While Hollywood movies are funded by big studios who undertake the above mentioned tasks for their respective movies publicity campaign for them, for an Indian movie to cough up such a large amount is extremely difficult.

  • Since the start of operations, how has your organization helped Indian films gain international recognition?

We have helped 12 Indian Films so far which have all vied for contention under the mainstream category. We have a full fledged team and industry affiliations to screen the movies in LA and carry out other necessary documentation. Some of these movies include Ballad of Rustom, Kamasutra 3D, Pulimurugan, DAM 999 and Color of Sky. Apart from that, we have recently helped send a Sri Lankan movie for contention, which is a first for the island nation. Besides conducting rigorous campaigns to help movies get into the very prestigious ‘Oscar Race’, we also help Indian filmmakers to take their movies to film festivals, film markets and film awards around this world. Thus we make sure that such movies don’t go unnoticed at any film circuits. We have also launched movie sales, an initiative by the All Lights Film Services, where we help film makers to sell their movie rights in a more customized format, and ensure that they receive a comparatively higher amount.

  • What are some of the upcoming projects which your organization is lobbying for?

We are currently working on three films, which include a dance documentary (short) titled ‘The Serpent Wisdom’ from India, a feature film titled ‘The Frozen Fire’ from Sri Lanka and a Malayalam feature film titled ‘Aikarakkonathe Bhishaguaranmar’ (Doctors of Aickarakkonam). All these projects are unique, both in content and production.

  • How can a filmmaker approach you?

Filmmakers usually approach us directly, or by participating as delegates or submitting their works for the All Lights India International Film Festival, which we conduct annually at Hyderabad. We forge partnerships with movies screened here that we find special. This year, the 4 day film festival will be held at PVR Inorbit Mall.
